2007-2008 TIP Teacher of the Year Awards Announced

Teachers’ Insurance Plan™ is pleased to announce the winners of our “Teacher of the Year Award” in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Washington. These awards are given in recognition of teachers who have contributed to the betterment of their schools, students or educational communities.

Teachers’ Insurance Plan received nominations for the awards from parents, students, colleagues and administrators. It was gratifying to see so many worthy nominees and challenging to try to select the best from among so many dedicated teachers.


The 2007-2008 Teachers of the Year are:
 
    
Arizona: Buck Nelson, an eleventh grade business teacher at Washington High School in Phoenix.  
  California: Lisa Ryder, previously a ninth grade teacher at Westlake High School in Westlake Village.
Colorado: Lisette Casey, a sixth grade teacher at Manitou Springs Middle School in Manitou Springs.  
  Connecticut: Susan Giniso, a fourth grade teacher at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford.
Delaware: Tonyea Mead, a third grade teacher at Milton Elementary School in Milton.  
  Florida: Kelly Morrison, a special education teacher at Burney Elementary School in Plant City.
Georgia: Denise York, a fifth grade teacher at Dallas Elementary School in Dallas.  
  Illinois: Otis Harris, Jr., a sixth grade teacher at O.A. Thorp Academy in Chicago.
Kentucky: Karen Armstrong, a fourth grade teacher at Clark Elementary School in Paducah.  
  Maryland: Tereza Slepickova, a high school teacher at Severn School in Severna Park.
Missouri: Carol Frame Jones, a special education teacher at the South Pemiscot School District in Steele.  
  New York: Scott Burt, a high school alternative teacher at the Keshequa School District in Nunda.
Ohio: Michelle Byrd, a second grade teacher from Mason Heights Elementary in Mason.  
  Pennsylvania: Ed Kerr, a construction teacher at the Mercer County Career Center in Mercer.
Texas: Michael Madden, an eleventh grade teacher at William Clements High School in Sugar Land.  
  Virginia: Kathryn Rodzinka, a teacher at the Valley Vocational Technical Center/Employment Training Program in Fishersville.
Washington: Gayle Haerling, a teacher at Raymond Elementary School in Raymond.  
 
 
The 2007-2008 National Teacher of the Year is:
 
  • Tonyea Mead, who was also our Delaware State winner.

Teacher of the Year nominations for the 2010-2011 school year are being accepted for the following states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Washington. Nominations must be postmarked or electronically submitted no later than midnight on April 30, 2011 to be considered. Please see below for nomination form.
