2005-2006 TIP Teacher of the Year Awards Announced

Teachers’ Insurance Plan™ is pleased to announce the winners of our “Teacher of the Year” programs in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Washington. These awards are given in recognition of teachers who have contributed to the betterment of their schools, students or educational communities.

Teachers’ Insurance Plan received nominations for the awards from parents, students, colleagues and administrators. It was gratifying to see so many worthy nominees and challenging to try to select the best from among so many dedicated teachers.


The 2005-2006 Teachers of the Year are:
 
Arizona: Cathy Cohn, an eighth grade mathematics teacher at All Saints' Episcopal Day School in Phoenix.  
  California: Zenaida Rosario, a third grade teacher at La Mirada Elementary in San Ysidro.
Connecticut: Hamilton Salsich, a ninth grade teacher at the Pine Point School in Stonington.  
  Delaware: Kathleen Devine, a 4-9th grade social studies teacher at the Silver Lake Treatment Center in Middletown.
Florida: Sandra Prew, a fourth grade teacher at Key Largo School in Key Largo.  
  Illinois: Susan Gueder, a twelfth grade creative writing teacher at Calumet Career Prep Academy in Chicago.
Maryland: Jeremiah Murphy, a music teacher from Largo High School in Upper Marlboro.  
  Minnesota: Laurie Newcomb-Windish, a Special Education teacher from Rochester Off Campus Charter School in Rochester.
Missouri: Jessica Neal, a Kindergarten teacher at Sherman Elementary in St. Louis.  
  New York: Francine Davis, a seventh grade teacher at Virgil I. Grissom Middle School in South Ozone Park.
Ohio: Ron Marshall, a fourth grade teacher at Ridgewood Elementary School in Hilliard.  
  Pennsylvania: Lisa Pontarelli, a Special Education teacher at John Marshall Elementary School in Philadelphia.
Texas: Elizabeth Charbonnet, a fourth grade teacher at Lakeway Elementary School in Lakeway.  
  Virginia: Carolyn Beever, a twelfth grade teacher at Forest Park High School in Woodbridge.
Washington: Alan Snyder, a Kindergarten teacher at Elma Elementary School in Elma.  
 
 
The 2005-2006 National Teacher of the Year is:
 
  • Dr. Cathy Cohn, who also was our Arizona State winner.
 
Cash awards of $1,000 were given to each state winner, and $500 was awarded to each winner’s school. The national winner also received a $2,500 travel voucher in addition to the cash award. Should you have any questions, please contact us at 1-888-288-6080 ext 7448.
 
Teacher of the Year nominations for the 2010-2011 school year are being accepted for the following states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Washington. Nominations must be postmarked or electronically submitted no later than midnight on April 30, 2011 to be considered. Please see below for nomination form.
